English born Oli McAvoy got his start in the US as a studio manager for a noted fashion photographer, and for the last several years has been working independently on both photography and film projects.

McAvoy’s artistic syntax relies on the contradiction between unearthly light and mundane places, but it is the figures that inhabit these spaces that give the raw energy to his narratives. Whether exposed against the grain of a ragged interior or highlighted against an urban skyscape, McAvoy’s subjects strive to assert themselves as the embodiments of meaning and agency in an otherwise unknowable world.

McAvoy lives and works in New York.
